Our chickens are raised on pasture where they eat grass, bugs and worms. They also have grains available, free choice with plenty of fresh air and water. Our happy hens have lived their lives outside, except for a few days as chicks when we kept them safe inside a brood pen.
As our hens feast on insects, grains and grass, they also enrich our soil by scratching around, adding nutrients and mixing things up. Our chickens are an indispensible part of our sustainable farm.
Studies sponsored by Mother Earth News show that pasture-raised eggs may contain:
« 1/3 less cholesterol
« ¼ less saturated fat
« 2/3 more vitamin A
« 2 times more omega-3 fatty acids
« 3 times more vitamin E
« 4-6 times more vitamin D
« 7 times more beta carotene
as compared to conventional, factory-raised eggs.
Think of our eggs as vitamins in a shell. And speaking of shells, did you know eggshells contain calcium? Our hens consume oyster shell to keep their eggshells nice and strong. We just put it out in a feeder and they take what they need.
Interested in Eggs – 2-3 dozen if you have an East Bay drop off site.
Let me know.
